The Joy of Summer

A Simply Stitch Gathering Creation

Joy of Summer Fawn Collage
Artful Fiber Project Bag

More on the Joy of Summer:  The little fawn became the inspiration for August's Simply Stitch fabric painting project. I was able to capture several photos of her and transferred one of them onto MulTex paper which is included the new Artful Fiber package from C & T Publishing. The fawn's image was water colored in using. I pieced, stitched and embellished her image using several pieces of fabric, both hand dyed and printed, to form my mixed media collage, The Joy of Summer, creating a beautiful memory of a point in time in the lovely Summer of 2013.

Foundation Piecing - My Little Chickadee

I simply had fun sewing Twigs and Twist's Wonky Birdhouse Pillow Cover which entailed abstract piecing of strips around a central design.  This got me hooked.  I enjoy looking at fabrics that are stitched in a pictorial form.  This lead me to formal foundation piecing.  Of course, I had to come up with my own pattern.  Inspired by a incredible Pinterest pin by Sandy, I designed this little bird.  I modeled it in the form of a chickadee, which is one of my favorite birds, in a nest .  It is not perfect, but I enjoyed the creative process and I now have a coffee mug mini quilt.

Evening Light in Studio

I was at the studio in the evening and the sunlight really made the fabric colors stand out.  I thought you might enjoy the view.

I love that Spring has arrived and the days are longer!

Let It Rain Fabric Makes You Want to Sing

This new fabric is from Quilting Treasures and designed by Simon + Kabuki.  It is fun with bright colors just in time for a spring party.  So, I whipped up a table runner using the fabric with a few extra pieces of other  fabrics from the studio.  Wouldn't napkins and a banner really compliment the runner?  Or, even a pillow in the form of a cloud using the blue or white raindrop print for that special touch?  Get out the bubbles.

Let It Rain Fabric is currently available at our Etsy website.

Japanese Inspired Table Runner

This Alexander Henry fabric has been screaming to be used.  It has such a pretty blue that it reminded me of the indigo blue used in many Japanese fabric creations. I pieced together this table runner in an abstract manner and tied the blocks together with a sashiko style stitch with my sewing machine.

Finished - Pirate Quilt and Wacky Birdhouse Pillow

Finished stitched projects for the month of February

Susie's Wacky Birdhouse

Love My Pirate Lap Quilt

In keeping with my New Year's resolutions to organize and challenge myself, I thought it would be motivating to continue to test my skills at free motion quilting.  Not wanting to make the project too big, I decided on making a tablecloth with a quilted strip down the middle.  Here are some beginning pictures using some of  Dear Stella's beautiful Piper fabric collection to be the centerpiece of the tablecloth.

My favorite so far - Zig Zag
One thing I've learned so far, is patience and keep practicing!  Back to stitching...

In Progress: Love My Pirate Quilt

After being inspired by the the Scrappy Trip quilt, I wanted to make another quilt using some of my scraps.  Particularly, my pirate fabric scraps which have been calling.  I searched the web for some ideas and stumbled across Sharon Schraber's network on Y-tube.  Wow! What an amazing quilter and teacher.  Yes, I am new to the quilting world.  My Love My Pirate quilt design  has been inspired by her Stash N Dash quilt tutorial.  I even used the glue in my seams and it does work.  Now, I just have to find a glue tip to make it less messy.  Here is the finished quilt top ready to be quilted.

FYI:  Happening at the Studio

Our Embroidery with Coloration class hosted by Ronna was a hit.  Everyone learned a new technique using crayons in their embroidery work.  It does make your work more dynamic and colorful.

Scrappy Trip Along Quilt

A splash of color in the middle of winter

First finished quilt for 2013!

When reading through some of my favorite blogs, I ran across this quilt challenge to stitch up a Scrappy Trip Along Quilt.  As it is my New Year's resolution once again to get rid of piles, I thought this quilt would get me off on the right foot.  What a fun project it turned out to be!  I made 12 blocks of my favorite colors and would have kept going but did not want to bite off more than I can chew and not complete the task.

I will be hosting a class making your own Scrappy Quilt on January 29th at 11:00 am.
